Dental Checkup in Glenmore Park

A comprehensive oral and dental examination is a procedure to determine the health of your mouth, teeth, gums and jaws, and acts as a baseline for future regular periodic or maintenance appointments. From this exam we can discuss any treatment that you may or may not need.

This procedure will involve:

  • A OPG or jaw xray to screen for any abnormalities in the teeth or underlying supporting gum or bone structure that is not visible to the naked eye.

  • If required a 3D xray may be taken to further investigate any areas of concern.

  • Examination of lymph nodes

  • Assessment of the jaw joint (TMJ), and muscles surrounding the jaw.

  • Assessment of the bite or occlusion of the teeth.

  • Soft tissue examination to check for early signs of oral cancer.

  • Periodontal or gum analysis to check for signs of gum disease or periodontitis.

  • Individual examination of each individual tooth to check for cavities, decays, cracks or wear.

  • Photographs will be taken to record what the teeth look like now, which is useful to determine if any changes occur in future.

  • Small intraoral xrays will also be taken to check for any problem areas in between the contacts of the teeth or underneath existing fillings, which cannot be seen by visual inspection.

RISKS

There are little to no risks involved in a comprehensive oral examination. Dental xrays and 3D xrays that are used in our practice emit very lose dosages of radiation. Our equipment is professionally maintained and tested to the highest standards and we are registered and compliant with EPA NSW guidelines.

For pregnant women there is no contraindication for dental xrays.

After the examination, if we detect any dental or oral health problems, we will discuss options for treatment and the options or alternative treatments that are available.
