Dental Fillings in Glenmore Park

Dental fillings or restorations is a way we can repair teeth that have decay or cavities, or that are cracked, worn or damaged. Usually the procedure is a single visit procedure where your tooth is prepared and restored on the same day, with tooth coloured biocompatible materials. The material used for dental fillings at Glenmore Park Dental is composite resin, a strong tooth coloured material. We don't use amalgam or silver fillings anymore.

If you need a dental filling, Dr Jason will explain the procedure to you. The process will depend on if your tooth has a decay, or if we are repairing it for any other reason such as a crack or to replace an old metal filling. The first step is to numb the area so no discomfort occurs. The tooth will be prepared which means we remove any decayed or damaged tooth structure. Once the tooth has been cleaned and prepared, the tooth surface is etched and primed and a dental adhesive placed before the the composite resin is placed into the tooth and shaped to a nice aesthetic appearance. Of course we will also polish the filling and ensure it is comfortable when you bite down. The final strength of the filling material is similar to the natural tooth.

Contrary to popular belief, we want to avoid material that are too strong, because this is not compatible with the natural tooth, and could lead to the remaining tooth structure breaking, or wearing away the opposing tooth. Instead the composite resin material we use is of a similar strength to your natural tooth.
